The UKSnapShot PEN Pic-a-Day Project has been set up to encourage creativity & explore the possibilities of moving emotions through photography.
The PEN Pic-a-Day Project will start on 1st March 2011. Every single day for a whole year I will upload a new photo both to this website and also to the Flickr account related to the project. This will help me to develop skills and to share with the world some beautiful sights. This will encourage both my own and viewers creativity & help explore the possibilities of moving emotions through photography. In addition, you can also follow how the project progresses with some video coverage on the UKSnapshot Channel.
What does the title PEN Pic-a-Day mean?
Well, the latter part of the title should be self explanatory, but the ‘PEN’ part refers to the model of camera I will be using.
Having had access to digital SLR cameras in the past, more often than not when I venture out, the camera stays behind. Digital SLR’s are big, bulky and often heavy, so it seems like a chore to carry a camera bag with all the equipment inside. The end result is that when I see something inspiring, I have no way of capturing the moment.
They often say that the best camera to have is the one you have with you all the time… or something along those lines.
I remember about a year or so ago I had the opportunity of using an Olympus PEN camera. It was compact, superbly made and delivered the same quality results that a larger SLR achieved. So for this project I am planning to purchase the new Olympus PEN E-PL2 as my camera of choice, to carry everywhere I go.
The Crowdfunder Project
This is where you come in… I have set up a Crowdfunder page to help fund the project. The real target I am hoping for is around £2,000 but I have set this to a more realistic £1,500 as I think this is more than I could ever hope for. The funds will be spent purchasing the camera, an additional lens and a spare battery. Any excess will be put toward a carry bag and travel expenses to get the project underway.
What you get out of it… The Rewards
Well, apart from that ‘feel good factor’ of helping with this project there are various levels of rewards. I am still working on these, though they will range from links on this very website, your company logo, prints of the photos and photo books. I will even be documenting some of the project on video and will offer up a video advert deal for the top contributor(s).

In addition to this you get to choose your favourite photo from the project which will be printed for you at 8×10″ size.

… and get a link to your website on the LINKS page, plus a 120×120 graphic based advert in the right hand panel on this website linking to your website, plus a photo book showing a selection of photos from the project, plus a signed A3 ‘Limited Edition’ print from the project. In addition to this, you also get to choose your favourite photo from the project which will be printed for you at 8×10″ size.
You will also be invited to have a video based advert at 1280×720 with a 10-15 second voice over advertising your website, product or service that would appear in one of the videos covering this project and uploaded to my main YouTube Channel.
Terms about links
These have to be approved and cannot link to dubious, illegal, gambling, or pornographic websites.
Graphical elements need to be supplied as JPEG or GIF files and need to be approved for inclusion.
Video adverts need to be supplied at 1280×720 size, 72dpi, JPEG format, along with text for the 10-15 second voiceover. This also need to be approved for inclusion.
Limited Edition = the print selected will have a maximum print run of 50. A selection of six of the best photos will be selected for you to choose from.
